Changing the World 24 Frames per Second:
How can film and other visual media serve the mission of the church?
It's no secret that our culture has become more and more saturated by visual media in recent decades. Changes in the way we communicate bring about changes in the way we think and interact. The culture creates the stories, but the stories then turn around and shape the culture, strengthening and reinforcing ideas about what is normal, what is good, what is right and wrong. Ultimately, our media shape what we value.
Two thousand years ago, Christ commissioned his followers to go into a hurting world and bring healing, hope, and light; to represent him, to give witness to his character as a compassionate, merciful, loving, and just God.
How can the church take visual mediums like film, television, animation, and the internet, and use them in powerful ways--as instruments of social change that bear witness to God's redemptive power at work in the world--as instruments of grace?
"New methods must be introduced. God's people must awaken to the time in which they are living." – Ellen G. White
